Isaiah 38 Second Chronicles

The following is a map between Isaiah 38 and Second Chronicles. The key matches are Hezekiah's Illness and Temple.

Hezekiah's Illness*

13 Isaiah 38:1-8
38 1In those days Hezekiah became deathly sick, and Isaiah, the prophet, the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, Yahvah says, Set your house in order; for you will die, and not live.
2Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall and prayed to Yahvah saying,
3Remember now, Yahvah, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done what is good in your sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

4Then the word of Yahvah came to Isaiah saying,
5Go and say to Hezekiah, king of Judah, Yahvah, the God of David your father says: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; look, I will add 15 years to your days.
6And I will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and I will defend this city.

7And this will be a sign to you from Yahvah that Yahvah will do this thing that he has spoken:
8look, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down on the sundial of Ahaz your father, 10 degrees backward. So the shadow of the sun returned the 10 degrees by which it had gone down.

38 Second Chronicles 32:24-26
24In those days, Hezekiah was sick to death, and he prayed before Yahvah and said, You have performed mighty miracles for me and you have rewarded me, according to the works of my hands.
25And the sickness of Hezekiah was due to the pride of his heart; therefore the wrath of Yahvah came on him and on Judah and Jerusalem.
26But Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Yahvah did not come on them in the days of Hezekiah.

*Unlike other places in Isaiah, this match is a known parallel passage between Isaiah 38 and Second Chronicles 32. Many Bibles cross reference these passages with a note in the section heading.

Fall of Jerusalem

13 Isaiah 38:9-15
9The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick and was recovered of his sickness:
10I said, In the middle of my days I will die, at the gates of the grave I am deprived of the rest of my years.
11I said, I will not see Yahvah in the land of the living; I will not see man among the inhabitants of the world any longer.
12My age is departed and removed from me as a shepherd's tent; my life has shrunk like a shoelace and as a weaver's web which is nearly ready to be cut off; from morning even to night you have delivered me to my fate.
13I waited patiently till dawn, but like a lion he broke all my bones; day and night you made an end of me.

14Like a swallow twittering, so I chattered; I mourned like a dove; I have lifted my eyes on high; Master, deliver me and comfort me.
15What will I say? He has both spoken to me, and he has done it, and has caused my sleep to flee because of the bitterness of my soul.

38 Second Chronicles 36:15-19
15And Yahvah, God of their fathers, sent to them by his messengers, giving useful advice in advance; because he had compassion on his people and on the flock that he had chosen;
16but they laughed at the messengers of Yahvah and despised their words and mocked his prophets until the wrath of Yahvah arose against his people, until there was no remedy.

17Therefore he brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and who had no compassion on young men or virgins, nor on the old men, nor on babies; he delivered them all into his hand.
18And all the vessels of the house of Yahvah, great and small, and the treasures of the house of Yahvah and the treasures of the king and of his princes, all these he brought to Babylon.
19And they burned the house of Yahvah and broke down the walls of Jerusalem and burned all its houses with fire and destroyed all its costly vessels.

Remnant

13 Isaiah 38:16-20
16When Master is against men, will they live? But because of the life of my spirit, heal me and make me to live.
17Look, it was for peace that I had great bitterness; but you have been pleased with my soul, that it may not waste in corruption; for you have cast all my sins behind your back.
18For the grave cannot thank you, death cannot praise you; those who go down into the pit cannot hope for your truth.
19But the living will give thanks to you, as I do this day; the father to the children will make known your truth.

20Yahvah will save us; therefore we will sing his songs all the days of our life in the house of Yahvah.

38 Second Chronicles 36:20-21
20And those who had escaped from the sword, he carried away captive to Babylon, where they became servants to him and to his sons, until Yahvah delivered the kingdom to the Persians;
21to fulfill the word of Yahvah by the mouth of Jeremiah the prophet, until the land had enjoyed its sabbaths, all the days that it lay desolate until the 70 years were completed.

Temple

13 Isaiah 38:21-22
21And Isaiah said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it as a plaster on the boil and he will recover.
22Because Hezekiah had said, What is the sign that I will go up to the house of Yahvah?

38 Second Chronicles 36:22-23
22Now in the 1st year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of Yahvah spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah the prophet might be fulfilled, Yahvah stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing saying,
23Cyrus king of Persia says: All the kingdoms of the land has Yahvah God of the skies given me; and he has charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Who is there among you of all his people with whom Yahvah his God is pleased? Let him go up, and let him come to me.
