36 Habakkuk

Surrounded

13 Isaiah 36:1-3
36 1Now it came to pass in the 14th year of King Hezekiah, that Sennacherib, king of Assyria, came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.
2Then the king of Assyria sent the field commander from Lachish to Jerusalem to King Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the ascent of the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the house's field.
3And there went out to him Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, who was steward of the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder.

36 Habakkuk 1:1-4
1The vision which Habakkuk the prophet saw.
2Yahvah, how long will I cry, and you will not hear? I cry to you because of the plunderers, and you will not deliver.
3Why do you show me iniquity and deceit? For I see violence and evil; justice was on my side, but the judge accepted bribes.
4Therefore the law is slacked, and justice never goes forth; for the wicked surely does evil to the righteous; thus, justice goes forth perverted.

?

13 Isaiah 36:4-7
4And the field commander said to them, Say now to Hezekiah, The great king, the king of Assyria says: What source of confidence is this in which you trust?
5Saying, I am an eloquent speaker, and have counsel and strength for war; now on whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?
6Look, you trust in the staff of this broken reed, in the Egyptian; on which, when a man lean, it will go into his hand and pierce it; so is pharaoh, king of Egypt, to all who trust in him.
7But if you say to me, We trust in Yahvah our god; what has Hezekiah gained, in removing the shrines on the high places, and the altars, and in saying to Judah and to Jerusalem, You will worship before one altar?

36 Habakkuk 1:5-7
5Look, presumptuous, see, wonder, and be amazed. For I will do a work in your days that you would not believe if a man should declare it to you.
6For look, I raise up the Chaldeans, that hasty and bitter nation, who will march through the breadth of the land to possess the dwelling places that are not theirs.
7They are mighty and dreadful; their judgment and their notable actions proceed them.

Horses

13 Isaiah 36:8-9
8Now make an alliance with my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you 2,000 horses, if you have riders to set on them.
9How then can you turn away the face of one of the least of my master's servants, and put your trust in the Egyptian to give you chariots and horsemen?

36 Habakkuk 1:8-10
8Their horses are swifter than eagles and more fierce than the evening wolves; and their horsemen will swoop down and will come from far away; they will fly like an eagle that hurries to eat.
9They all come for plunder; the appearance of their faces is fearful, and they will gather plunder as the sand.
10They scoff at kings, and princes they mock; and they laugh at every stronghold; for they heap up land and capture it.

God

13 Isaiah 36:10
10And am I now come up without Yahvah against this land to destroy it? Yahvah said to me, Go up against this land and destroy it.

36 Habakkuk 1:11
11Then his wind will change and pass away, and his army will be found guilty before his god.

On the Wall

13 Isaiah 36:11
11Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah said to the field commander, Speak to your servants in the Aramaic language; for we understand it; and do not speak to us in the Jews' language, in the presence of the people who are standing on the wall.

36 Habakkuk 2:1
1I will stand on my place and set myself on the rock tower, and I will watch to see what he will say to me and what I will answer, because of my chastisement.

Make it Plain

13 Isaiah 36:12-13
12But the field commander said to them, My master has not sent me to you and to your master to speak these words, but to the men who sit on the wall, that they may not eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you.

13Then the field commander stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language and said, Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.

36 Habakkuk 2:2-3
2And Yahvah answered me and said, Write the vision, and make it plain on tablets, that he who reads it, may understand it clearly.
3For the vision will come to pass at its appointed time, and it will be fulfilled at the end, it will not lie; and if it should delay, do not be impatient, because it will surely come, it will not delay.

Wine

13 Isaiah 36:14-17
14The king says: Do not let Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you.
15Do not let Hezekiah cause you to trust in Yahvah saying, Yahvah will surely deliver us; this city will not be delivered into the hands of the king of Assyria.
16Do not listen to Hezekiah; for the king of Assyria says: Do me a favor, and come out to me; and each eat of his vines and each eat of his fig tree and each drink the waters of his own cistern;
17until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and oil, a land of olive orchards and vineyards.

36 Habakkuk 2:15-16
15Woe to him who makes his neighbors drink the dregs of fury, and makes them drunk, that he may look on their nakedness.
16You are filled with dishonor instead of glory; also drink yourself and stagger, for the cup of Yahvah's right hand will come round to you, and shame will cover your glory.

Idols

13 Isaiah 36:18-20
18Do not let Hezekiah deceive you saying, Yahvah will deliver us. Has any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?
19Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? And have they delivered Samaria out of my hands?
20Who is he among all the gods of these lands that has delivered his land out of my hand, that Yahvah should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?

36 Habakkuk 2:18-19
18What profit is a graven image that its maker has fashioned? The molten image is a false doctrine, for the heart of its maker trusts in it, to fashion a mute idol.
19Woe to him who says to wood, Awake! To the mute stone, Arise! They are vain; even though they are overlaid with gold, there is no breath at all in them.

Silence

13 Isaiah 36:21
21But they held their peace and did not answer him a word; for the king had commanded saying, Do not answer him.

36 Habakkuk 2:20-3:0
20But Yahvah is in his holy house; let all the land tremble before him.

Heard

13 Isaiah 36:22-37:0
22Then Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, who was steward of the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of the Rabshakeh.

36 Habakkuk 3:16
16When I heard it, my body trembled, confusing the words of my mouth; fear entered into my bones and my knees trembled, for he searched me out and declared to me the day of trouble that comes on the people.
