Ruth's wedding leads to the Song of Solomon.
Ruth ends with the marriage of Ruth and Boaz. It's ultimately a book about much more than marriage, it's about redemption, it's about duty, but it is also about a wedding between two amazing people, and the kids that come from their union. So Ruth ends with a genealogy, since Ruth turns out to be the great great grandmother of King David.

30 Ruth 4:18-22 |
31 Song of Solomon 1:1 |
Song of Solomon appends nicely to Ruth for a couple reasons. First, Solomon identifies himself as the author at the beginning of the book. Solomon is King David's son and heir to his throne. So Solomon's name at the very beginning of Song of Solomon is actually another generation in the genealogy ending at the very end of Ruth.
Secondly, it makes sense for the erotic story that is the Song of Solomon to follow the wedding story that is Ruth. People sometimes get these backwards in life, but the Bible need not.
